About In Stance

Stephen Hockanson’s striking steel sculpture sparks the imagination of viewers by juxtaposing opposites and contrasting compositional elements. He plays with the notion of balance and lends the illusion of motion to this sculpture. The tension of this piece draws the viewer in to explore the dynamic leverage of the steel. His current works investigate various themes through wood pieces and small metal work. Hokanson received his BFA from Western Michigan University and his MFA from Northern Illinois University. He is currently preparator at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago.
