Woods Davy states, “The focus of my work is the integration of man-made and natural forms…
where the result transcends the materials, and a Zen-like quality emerges.” With these words, Davy
sets the stage for his precariously balanced sculpture in which stones appear to float in gravitydefying
weightlessness. Most of Davy’s works are vertically oriented and explore a cantilevered
construction method, where large-scale stones are stacked in a totemic style. His work contemplates
the notion of opposing forces, while forging an unexpected harmony. Woods Davy received his BFA
from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill and his MFA from University of Illinois. His public
projects are not objects, but “places that function as points of transition and gathering sites.”
